2012 – Chelsea Valdiconza

Chelsea Valdiconza was born and raised in sunny San Diego, CA. Her younger brother’s long but successful battle against leukemia throughout her childhood inspired her to become a doctor, the first in her family. She attended UC San Diego where she studied Biochemistry and Cell Biology and completed a minor in Music. At UC San Diego she competed on the sailing team as the women’s varsity skipper and went surfing in her spare time. After graduating from UC San Diego, she spent one year volunteering at a pediatric obesity clinic, working as a patient transporter in a radiology dept, and traveling to South Africa where she took a plunge off the world’s tallest bungee jump.

She then made the move across the country to Washington, DC to attend Georgetown University School of Medicine. At Georgetown she had invaluable patient interactions and learning experiences that only reinforced her decision to pursue medicine so many years prior. During her time at Georgetown, she pursued research in both pediatric obesity and small bowel transplantation. She pursued many leadership positions and served as chairperson of the Wilderness Medicine, Medical Spanish, and Anesthesia student interest groups. Chelsea decided to pursue a career in anesthesiology and was ecstatic to have matched to the University of Washington in Seattle, where she is currently beginning her intern year.

She is incredibly grateful to the Georgetown Clinical Society for this special honor.
